Or Maybe My Mother was an American Chameleon? (Premiere) in the LIVE ARTS FESTIVAL, Sept., 2010 in Northern Liberties, Philly.

09.09.2010 13:00
America/New York

Jaamil Kosoko will present a new solo derived from his most recent dance/theater piece, An Expectation of Violence.  This work will premiere as a part of 8 (eight choreographers / eight new works), a dance showcase in the 2010 Philadelphia Live Arts Festival.  Follow details as they develop by visiting the Live Arts Festival & Philly Fringe Website.

As a solo spawned from a line of research that began with An Expectation of Violence (2010, Joyce SoHo), this new work is an investigation on the embodiment of my dead mother.  At various points in the piece I transform myself becoming the various characters that lived inside her schizophrenic body.

I engage in a kind of trance-like state of performance where the outcomes are completely unexpected.  Audience interact with the work by supplying their favorite songs and sound designs.  Bring a CD to the show to add your creative voice to this surreal theatrical experience.

This work is commissioned by the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe with additional support from nEW Festival and The Philadelphia Cultural Fund.
